Slightly grey Tuesday

After a long weekend spent in London and having most of the day off yesterday I started work super early this morning in effort to get on top of things.

Starting work early means you have to eat more meals in the day.  I swear my stomach needs to be fed nonstop.  Anyways.  Because there's a pile of washing up with my name on it in our kitchen I thought I'd let you know I have these kitty tea towels back on the scene, you can order them through my Not On The High Street shop where if you spend over £30 you get free shipping.  Happy Tuesday, friends. x

Family

I did this family portrait late last year for a family of five.  Going through some photos on my camera and I found these shots I took of the final print.

Flowers!

It's taken me almost six months to make my way through our wedding photos and I'm enjoying breaking it all down into tiny segments to show you.  Today: flowers!

Flowers are fun.  If you're planning a wedding or event, I can't advise you enough to go visit a flower wholesaler, choose some damn flowers you really like and just go for it.

For all of the stress I put myself through during the planning of our wedding one of the best memories I have is going with my best pal to this massive flower warehouse, freezing our butts off in this giant refrigerator room of flowers and loading a huge cart up with whatever we liked.  We chose cabbage flowers, wax flowers (they have tiny SQUARE flowers, we chose pink and white. They are like origami! How awesome are they!?) thistle (come on I was marrying a Murdoch) purple and red berries, protea, bright orange thistles, and a handlful of others I can't remember the names of unless I dig out my (very affordable) invoice.

We made bouquets for my five bridesmaids, buttonholes for the men and parents and filled around 20 jars and vases with flowers for the tables.

We did all of the flower arranging over the course of two days and in the meantime kept the flowers in the cellar in water.

One small piece of advice: cabbage flowers and protea weigh an absolute tonne. Perhaps not ideal for bouquet-throwing florals!

It's easier than it looks

My etsy shop is nearing 4,000 sales and as I sit at my folks house in France with plenty of time to think (and plenty of time to eat loads of bread as well, I've found.) I just realised it's been 6 years since I started on etsy.  Just the other day my Not On The High Street storefront went live and it's pretty awesome to think this is how I can afford to feed myself, clothe myself, etc.  If you're daring enough to scroll back to my very first etsy sale you'll see some fine photoshop work on my listing photos! Everyone has to start somewhere!

Etsy is offering 40 free listings to anyone interested in getting started selling online.  Have you been thinking of setting up your own online shop? Give it a try! I dare you.

CA-1

Four years ago we took a trip to the West Coast USA, starting in San Francisco and following highway 1 south to LA.  Although we had made a ton of notes of food places we wanted to visit and had a general idea of our route and despite having our cabins booked in Yosemite and our final accomodation for our time in LA arranged, we didn't book anywhere to stay in between.  We were winging it.

It was a test of how two humans can react in very trying conditions... when donuts are in the plans but no donut purveyor in sight for miles and miles.  When faced with a wall-sized menu of slow roasted meats, what does one do but order one of each.  And in preparation for a day's walking up to the top of yosemite falls, it's important to make full use of the breakfast buffet and create not one but three generous breakfast burritos, two bagels and pop a danish in your bag for the walk.  (are you hungry yet? I am.)

In all seriousness it was one of those trips that required a bit more thinking on the spot than your normal vacation - especially as we hadn't arranged any accommodation.

Despite kinda secretly enjoying the tackiness of some of the motels we found if we had known then about airbnb we may have booked more places through them.  Airbnb are offering £15 for your first stay through this link.  We use it almost every time we go away - staying in an apartment is so much more enjoyable than a hotel most of the time, and much more affordable too!
